I wanted to start drawing / painting again, and what better subject than squirrels? Although technically I am an artist by profession, it's for video games, so that doesn't really count. I used to draw a lot when I was younger, but I am very out of practice, and thus my initial attempts will likely be rather rough for a while, but I really want to improve because I remember how rewarding it can be.
Here is my first attempt...
Tablet
The above image was drawn on a little Wacom tablet that I plugged into my laptop. It was a rather fiddly experience, not particularly fun, so I decided to get an android tablet that uses Wacom pens. This next image was one of my first attempts with colour.
Sketches
I decided to go back to basics and focus on pencil sketches for a while and I have to say I was quickly very happy with the new tablet! I found a previous model Samsung (Galaxy Tab S9+) for a great price in a sale, and it worked with a bunch of Wacom EMR pens that I already had.
Proportions
All of these images you see here are copied (never traced) from photos I have taken. One thing I can see that I am struggling with is the proportions of the facial features. Most obviously, I am rendering the eyes too big. They look too cartoonish, but in this case the nose was off quite a bit too. I feel like this looks like the Alf character, and now I can't unsee that, so I will probably delete it once I have some more material.
